Teacher
Like most kids, I took dance lessons when I was
7, but the studio in town closed and that put an
end to that. Then, years later, as part of my New
Years resolution, I decided to sign up for a ballet
class through Jefferson City Dance and Theater
(the original name of Dancenter) and the rest is
history. I took everything I could...ballet, jazz, tap,
modern, belly dancing, flamingo, ballroom, yoga,
musical theater, folk....you name it, I've done it.
After a few years, I realized that I didn't have the
"turnout" necessary for ballet, so I decided to
concentrate on tap and jazz. I have been very
fortunate to participate in many local stage
productions in town through The Little Theater
and the Capital City Players Dinner Theater
including, the current project, The Fiddler on the Roof....plus Chicago, Showboat,
Civil War, Cantorum's 200 Spring Concert, Gypsy, 42nd Street, Cabaret, George M,
Damn Yankees, Crazy fo You, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream
Coat. I feel that there is nothing like live theater to sharpen you dance skills. I also
assisted with choreography for some of the operettas at the Jefferson City High
School, including Anything Goes.
I firmly believe that in order to teach, you must continue to learn. I still take weekly
classes and have participated in numerous workshops. The most recent
workshops include the '02, '04 and '05 St. Louis Tap Festivals, Belly Dance and Lane
Alexander (founder of the Chicago Rythem Project) in 2003
At the present, I am teaching the beginning Adult Tap Class at Dancenter and I just
love it. I am in awe of any grown-up who has the courage to try new things,
especially tap; it's like aerobics with a recital! It's m pleasure to share my
tap knowledge with you!
