If most dance studios seem to have qualified, friendly teachers, experience teaching
children and a big show at the end of the year, aren’t they all pretty much the same?
Does it really matter which place I enroll at? Yes. There are 4 main things that can
make a huge difference in the quality of instruction your child receives. Here are 4
things every parent should consider before deciding on a dance studio for their child.

1) What is the size of the class?

If the dance class has fewer students in it each child will receive more personalized
attention, learn more and have more fun. With younger students it is easier for a
teacher to maintain control over the class and make sure each student understands
the concepts and instructions. Our smaller class size makes sure that no
fundamental concept is being missed. Here at Dancenter we always limit our
classes to 10 for our ages 2 to 6 years old and 14 for all other levels. This allows our
teacher to ensure that students are not developing bad habits or improper technique

2) What type of dance floor is used?

Dance is a very physical activity that requires a lot of jumping, which can put stress
on bones and joint. Most dance footwear does not provide any cushioning or
support, so the shock of dance movement can place a lot of pressure on the knees
and back of a dancer. A vinyl composite “Marley” floor is accepted worldwide as the
best surface for recreational to professional dance. Facilities such as Royal
Winnipeg Ballet and The Royal Academy of Dance in London use Marley dance
floors. Riverdance-tour shows all use Marley floors. A Marley floor allows dancers to
slide, with a degree of “control slip, but not slippery so there is less risk of slips and
falls.  Very few studios use professional Marley floors because of the expense
involved, and usually opt for a regular hard or laminated wood for a studio floor. At
Dancenter we have the Marley floors in all our studios. We believe the safety of you
student is worth it.

3) Can you watch your student during class?

Almost every studio will invite you in once or twice a year to observe the class. And
some even have monitors in the class so you can watch on close circuit TV’s. But if
your student is not in the range of the camera you can not see them. One-Way glass
observation windows are the best. You can see everything that is going on in the
class 100 percent of the time. Here at Dancenter we have very large one-way
windows in every studio. We feel it is best way for our parents to see how well their
student is doing.

4)  Do you have an all adult teaching staff?

Many studios only have the owner and a few other adults teaching there advance
classes. They all have studied dance and are very qualified to teach them. But if your
student is below an Advance level many studios have student teaching students.
This can cause trouble for the class in whole. As a parent you know that it take
experience to control and teach children. That is why at Dancenter we only have adult
teachers teaching all our classes. Our entire teaching staff continues training so
your child is taught the most updated style and technique.
